Firstly, you’re scared, aren’t you? You have seen the word school! Don’t be! The Fore Adventure beach school is definitely not something you will have to fight your little humans to get up for in the morning. Promise.

Back to school is imminent. Thus, just like that we have just said goodbye to our last gaggle of beach schoolers.

Spend your days at beach school following in the footsteps of what seems like an Enid Blyton classic! (with some added and obligatory Fore Adventure bite of course). It’s filled with an exploration of our local playground. We’ve got an epic patch of wild, so beach school consequently features cliffs, shore, sea, beach, woods and heathland.

Beach School Adventures

Our teams of adventurers become permissibly feral for a few days! Learning the ins and outs of this coastal place we luckily get to call home. Through stimulating experiences and using all the senses, we always aim to show how great the outdoors really is. That way our relationship with it becomes positive and we become shiny happy people along the way.

And we reckon we have a good recipe for it too…

Exploring what the ground has to offer us, we foraged our way round the Fore Adventure hutquarters. We learnt the summer fruits and seeds and how to identify them- collecting the weird and wonderful as we went. With our harvest we provided ourselves with the material to get our craft hats on! The beach school gang made enviable wind chimes out of nature’s goodness. (While snacking on some self-foraged natural treats to keep our bellies ticking over).

Rockpool Discoveries

Armed with nets and buckets we hit the local rock pools! We checked out the creatures and critters that inhabit them. However, we couldn’t resist getting into the water itself and exploring the life above and below it. Time for snorkels and wetsuits!

Firstly, kayaking skills were learnt by all. Secondly we adventure along our iconic coastline. Onwards to investigate the stacks, arches and caves of Old Harry like pirates have done before us. With this as our launching pad we are able to get to know the local sea plant life, the sea vegetables and sea weeds. The beach school brigade discovered the spear leaved orache, gutweed, sea beet and sea lettuce. Furthermore, one pair of adventurers treated their grandparents to some foraged fried seaweed after a day on the water with us! foraged for the big humans!

Dry Land Exploration

Back on dry land we sharpened our tools and got sawing, whittling and carving our very own walking sticks. Furthermore, this was all topped off with some fire making!

Yep, this is a school like no other. A beach school where you learn how to interact with and make the most of what’s around us. Where getting wet and muddy is part of the course and consequently cooking up what we foraged was the only homework!

Next August it will be happening all over again. If you want your small humans to be part of beach school in the summer of 2015 then drop us a bell and we’ll make sure they also get to be part of the Fore Adventure tribe.
