Apr 14, 2023 | Sea Adventures, Kayaking Adventures, Kayaking Tours, Stand Up Paddleboarding, Adventure Weekends

We love Dorset, and we think there’s no better way to explore it than by taking on epic gravel bike adventures. Get ready to escape and see the very best of the Isle of Purbeck. We’ve put together an awesome itinerary to get the most from your weekend. No bike? No problem! Hire a bike from Cyclex near Corfe Castle. They’ve got a range of road, mountain or e-bikes for hire.

Leave work behind, hop on the train to Wareham (South Western Railways, taking just over 2 hours from London Waterloo). Hop on your bike and make your way to Studland where your bed under the stars awaits! Burnbake campsite offers “back to nature” camping in a stunning and relaxed site. Paddleboarding In Studland

SUP old harry rocks dorset fore adventure

There’s no better way to start your weekend than with a dip in the sea! Middle Beach, Studland, is just down the road, so jump into a wetsuit and onto a paddleboard. Our friendly instructors run Introduction to Stand Up Paddleboarding in Studland Bay’s sheltered water. We think it’s the perfect place to learn, with Old Harry Rocks as your backdrop.  After your SUP experience, continue your cycle up to Old Harry Rocks to marvel at the amazing chalk stacks from above. Plan ahead and bring a picnic or enjoy the downhill ride to Swanage and devour some seaside seafood at Pier Head.

Explore Durlston Country Park

After refuelling with some lunch- on with the gravel bike adventures! Head up to Durlston Country Park to explore the beautiful clifftop paths, and the historic castle. Keep an eye out for sea birds and maybe even a pod of dolphins out to sea! Carry on down the coast, cycling the historic Priests Way past Purbeck Limestone Quarries. Discover preserved Dinosaur footprints, before reaching one of Dorset’s most famous pubs- the Square and Compass in Worth Matravers. Enjoy a pint of locally brewed beer and a pasty at this quirky little pub while admiring the views. Or pop into Worth Matravers tea room for a delicious Purbeck Ice Cream. A short walk down to the coast brings you to Winspit, a disused quarry, with plenty of caves to explore, as well as a rocky beach.

Discover Old Harry Rocks By Kayak

We love seeing Old Harry Rocks from the cliff path above, but nothing compares to getting up close and personal! Our signature kayak tours take you right to the base of the cliffs. Explore arches and coves that can only be accessed from the water. Hear stories of the pirates and smugglers from years ago and if the tide allows, walk the beach at the base of the rocks.  Nearby hotel and restaurant, The Pig on the Beach, serves delicious wood fired flatbreads from its outdoor oven. The perfect way to re-energise after a morning’s paddling!

Gravel Bike Trails At Studland

Time to hop back on the gravel bike, adventure awaits. There’s a cycle route straight to Wareham, or you can detour through Studland Heath. See the majestic Agglestone, a large sandstone rock with great bouldering opportunities! You’ve got time for a bite to eat before your train. Head to the Salt Pig for a meal featuring some amazing local produce (don’t forget to pick up some treats from their farm shop to take home!). Alternatively feast on fish and chips on Wareham Quay, watching the boats pass by on the river. You will have earned that sit down on the train home, after seeing and experiencing the very best that a short break in Dorset can offer!

Fancy your own dose of Dorset adventure? We run daily kayak and SUP tours, as well as bushcraft, foraging and much more! Why not join us on our Adventure Weekends including wild camping at our secret spot under the stars!
