Studland Bay: The Ideal Location for Watersports Equipment Hire
Nestled along the spectacular Dorset coastline, Studland boasts an idyllic setting with its crystal-clear waters, golden sandy beaches, and diverse marine life.
The area is renowned for its unspoiled beauty, calm waters, and tranquil atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for watersports enthusiasts of all levels. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a beginner looking to dip your toes into the world of watersports, Studland provides the perfect playground to unleash your adventurous spirit.
Kayak Hire Dorset: Paddling into Serenity
Kayaking offers an incredible opportunity to immerse yourself in nature while gliding through the water. At Fore Adventure, you can rent high-quality kayaks and explore the pristine coastline, hidden coves, and breathtaking cliffs of Studland.
Kayaks are versatile vessels that allow you to navigate both calm waters and explore more challenging sea conditions. Whether you embark on a peaceful solo excursion or join one of our guided tours, kayaking is an excellent way to appreciate the beauty of Studland’s diverse ecosystems while enjoying a full-body workout.
Technical Details Of Our Kayak Hire
For those wondering about technical details, we have a well-maintained fleet of Perception Gemini double scooter sit-on-top kayaks and Perception Triumph Fishing spec single kayaks, and RTM triple sit-on-top kayaks.
*Please note paddles are included with the hire.
Paddleboard Hire Dorset: Stand Above the Waves
Stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) has gained immense popularity in recent years and for a good reason. Standing atop a paddleboard, you’ll enjoy a unique perspective as you float across the water. SUP provides an excellent core workout while allowing you to peer below the waves and soak up the incredible coastal views surrounding Studland and Old Harry Rocks.
Fore Adventure offers paddleboard rentals suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to experienced paddlers. Whether you prefer a leisurely paddle along the shoreline or an adventurous journey further out to sea, paddleboarding promises an unforgettable experience for water sports enthusiasts of all ages.
We offer Nahskwell and Jobe composite Stand Up Paddleboards, which have a couple of advantages over inflatable SUPs:
- Composite boards tend to be faster, glide better, and tend to maintain momentum better than inflatables.
- Composite boards handle wind better. Wind can have a significant effect on an inflatable paddleboard, even in moderate wind conditions. Composite SUPs can handle wind much better than inflatables can, ensuring you don’t have to wait for the perfect weather day to go SUPing.
- Hiring a paddleboard means that you don’t have to worry about it taking up room in your car or spending ages wearing yourself out pumping it up, and the often forgotten cleaning it down and drying it off afterward!
*Please note paddles are included with the hire.
Bodyboard Hire Dorset: Ride the Waves
For those seeking an exhilarating ride on the waves, bodyboarding is the perfect choice. Designed to ride waves close to the shore, bodyboards offer an accessible and thrilling watersports option.
*note: it’s only on easterly winds you can catch waves. At other times kids can use them to play on – they are great family fun and children are amused for hours!
At Fore Adventure, you can rent top-quality bodyboards that are lightweight, easy to maneuver, and built to withstand the power of the sea. Whether you’re a novice catching your first wave or a seasoned rider looking for the ultimate adrenaline rush, bodyboarding in Studland is an unforgettable experience.
Watersports Safety: Things To Know Before Hiring Watersports Equipment
While watersports provide endless excitement, safety should always be your top priority as it is ours. Before venturing out onto the water, consider these essential safety tips:
Always Wear A Personal Flotation Device (PFD):
A well-fitting PFD is crucial for all watersports activities, ensuring your safety in case of unexpected falls or accidents. With each kayak, paddleboard or bodyboard hire we include one CE-approved buoyancy aid to fit your individual size.
Check The Weather Conditions:
Before heading out, always check the weather forecast and be aware of any potential changes in wind, tides, or currents that could affect your safety. We are always keeping an eye on the local tides and weather and are here to help you understand them. Here are our favourite apps we use to check the weather conditions before every adventure:
- XC Weather – great for wind forecasting
- Easy Tide – shows tidal information, times of high and low tide, as well as a handy graph for various UK locations
- Met Office Inshore Forecast – another great place to check wind forecast, as well as sea state, visibility, and general forecast
- Lightning Maps – no one wants to get caught out with lightning on the water! We can track storms live here.
Use The ‘Buddy System’
Unless you are well experienced, participate in watersports activities with a friend or in a group. This ensures mutual support and assistance in case of emergencies and makes the shared experience even more fun.
Be Mindful Of Your Ability
There is an important pre-requisite that should be met before hiring kayaks, SUPs, or bodyboards. You need to be confident in the water. Know your skill level and choose activities that align with your capabilities.
Although parts of Studland Bay are very shallow at certain tide times, you need to be able to swim in the sea and confident enough to safely use the equipment. Our team will give you some paddling tips and show you how to use the equipment.
No prior experience is necessary to hire our watersports equipment but If you’re a beginner, it’s essential to start with guided tours or lessons to build confidence and develop proper techniques. If you are looking for help to get your paddling skills up to scratch or to develop your skills further then join one of our tuition sessions. We have beginner sup lessons and intermediate sup lessons available and introduction to sea kayaking courses as well as more advanced sea kayaking sessions, bespoke sea kayaking tuition, and BC kayaking courses.
Respect The Marine Environment
Studland Bay is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a protected Marine Conservation Zone. You should preserve the natural beauty of Studland by adhering to local environmental regulations and respecting wildlife habitats. Avoid disturbing marine life or fragile ecosystems.
