Coastal Foraging – Half Day Reviews
“Interesting, informative, entertaining – learning in a relaxed, informal way, hosted by the very knowledgable Dan, and accompanied by a friendly mob of co-attenders. Elliot kept us all safe and together as Dan shared his knowledge and anecdotes galore. Elliot filled in when one hadn’t quite grasped what Dan was showing or explaining. It was a truly engaging three hours – the time just flew by. I came away inspired to go foraging and cooking up great results! Thank you Dan & Elliott. I would advise the wearing of wellies or boots with good gripping soles to get over some rocks with slippery seaweed!!!”
“A fantastic afternoon coastal foraging and feasting. A wonderful gift from my sister. Dan has so much knowledge and talks with such passion allowing for hands-on participation. The cocktail and dinning experience was beyond expectations. Absolutely delicious! The best meal we have had in a long time. Book it!!!!!!!”
“Did the coastal foraging and edible seaweed half day course today . Dan was our instructor and was an absolute gem. He was informative, answered every question and was very funny. The weather was perfect and we learned how to forage for and identify Razor clams, spider crabs and at least 5 types of seaweed and numerous coastal plants. I have been on other foraging courses but this course comes out on top. I cannot recommend this course highly enough.”
“We booked this course as a bday present and it’s didn’t fail to deliver. Dan is externally knowledgeable and all round great host, taking us all along the coast and up into the woodland around old harry, finished off with some amazing soup and added ingredients from our forage!! We feel more confident about foraging in our local area now and will defiantly be looking at doing more courses with fore adventure!! Thanks dan and team!”
Coastal Foraging – Half Day Questions
From our spot on the beach in Studland we have the best location in Dorset for coastal foraging. Join us to seek out sea vegetables and seaweeds, crabs, cockles, and more wild edibles on our half-day coastal foraging and edible seaweed courses. This course is run by founder and expert forager Dan Scott who has been featured on BBC, Sky, Ch4 and ITV.
In this course you will learn the skills to identify and prepare what we find. Our coastal foraging courses in Dorset will show you how to make the most of nature’s very own larder, whether in the sea or on the shore. Join us to pull in pots, hunt out razor clams. Scour the shoreline for all of the wild edibles on offer from nature before settling at our sweet seaside spot for a heartwarming soup with wild ingredients to end the day with.
Nature’s larder is forever changing, springtime brings us new shoots, like wild garlic, alexanders, and cleansing cleavers, in summer we are treated with edible blooms and more gorgeous green goodies and sea vegetables. Autumn delivers nourishing nuts and a bounty of berries. Even in Winter you can still forage and find yourself wild foods to eat. Best of all we have an abundance of edible seaweeds all year round so the larder is never empty.
The Coastal Foraging Journey
When it comes to foraging, seeing people first recognise that glorious relationship between the outdoors and what they eat is always a special moment. Coastal foraging is exciting! Donning your wellies and grabbing your basket and exploring the hedgerows and seashore is like a treasure hunt of the natural kind. Being able to eat what you have found in this adventurous way is an added bonus. It becomes about the journey.
If you want to go one step further we run seasonal Forage and Feast events where our resident chef will cook up our foraged fare as a stunning 3-course meal beside the sea. Or kayak fish forage and feast events where we take you to the high seas to catch and then cook your finds, sure to bring out your inner adventurer.
- The coastal foraging courses take place over approximately 3 hours.
- Unless we tell you something else all of our foraging sessions run from our Hutquarters at Middle beach in Studland, if the foraging course will be running from a different location you will be notified where to meet in advance, but it will not be any further than 20 minutes away from Middle Beach.
- Please arrive at our base in the car park 10 minutes before your adventure begins to ensure a savvy start as we, unfortunately, can’t hold the session if you are late.
- You will need to come dressed for the outdoors and be prepared to walk on unsteady ground.
- After a short welcome briefing from our expert forager, you will explore the local area for wild foods.
- This event includes a soup with foraged ingredients. Please advise us when you book if you have any allergies or dietary requirements we need to be aware of.
