Founder Dan Scott holds the highest sea kayak leadership award, the Advanced Sea Kayak Leader. Our instructors all hold their BC Paddle Sport Instructor and sea kayak award qualifications plus extensive in-house training.

Safety is our number one priority. We can guarantee that all our instructors are trained to industry standard best practices. We also hold National Governing Body qualifications where applicable, to operate in line with our BC paddlesport accredited provider status and AALA licence. As a WISE wildlife safe accredited operator you can rest assured that we work responsibly, without disturbing the wildlife and sealife.

In the event of an incident, all of our guides carry personal locator beacons so that help will come straight away. Once activated, the signal is detected by a satellite and sent to a Mission Control Centre (MCC). Here it is decoded and forwarded to the nearest Rescue Coordination Centre. Luckily we have never had to use them but we carry them so you are in the safest hands.

Introduction To Beach School

We can promise that you won’t be fighting to get your little people out the door for the adventures we get up to.

As learning outside the classroom becomes ever more important and we become more familiar with the idea of forest schools and engaging children with the outdoors. We applied the same outdoor ethos here at our unique location in Studland Bay. Our founders are trained to Level 3 beach school standard accredited by forestschools.com one of the leading forest and beach school training providers in the UK. They have trained their team to deliver beach school sessions here on the Dorset coast. You will be amazed at how this ever-changing environment provides many opportunities for learning and fun!

The Benefits Of Beach School

The idea of Beach schools is to give children the opportunity to learn through different experiences, challenges, and activities to develop their emotional sense of worth, empathy, and confidence. Children’s participation enables them to gain independence, physical skills and manage risks and make choices within a safe environment.

The ethos and benefits of our beach school is to connect with nature through positive outdoor play and stimulating environments. Also to allow children to learn and develop their relationship with nature and their peers. Our sessions are designed to help children understand and encourage a sense of responsibility for the natural environment and provide ways to develop their life skills whilst having fun and being inspired!

What Beach School Involves

The sessions we run are varied in content to explore the diverse location we have. From rock pooling to shelter building, beach art to scavenger hunts, foraging, and wild cooking to name but a few. We create sessions designed to be fluid in nature so that we can tailor the activities to suit the individual needs and learning styles of the group and the conditions on the day.

Our location on Middle Beach at Studland provides a variety of diverse environments for our beach school activities. We are located in an ideal location for rock pool rambling, seaweed scavenging, and foreshore foraging. These sessions are designed to teach children the importance of conservation and preserving our environment. The sand dunes and woodland behind the beach provide many opportunities for roaming, play, and exploration. Here we run treasure trails, simple map-making and map reading exercises where our beach school activities turn Enid Blyton’s famous five stories into a reality.

The beach also creates diverse opportunities for shelter building. We often use the materials we find on the beach to construct shelters. This encourages creative thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork. We use tarps and paracords to explore rigging up many different ways to protect us from the elements. For our younger clients, we often run similar sessions but in miniature. For example, building shelters for our favourite teddy bears or making stick men and building rafts for them to race.

Wild Food

All this hard work makes children hungry. Luckily we have a unique private location that enables us to cook up a wild feast. Getting the children involved in sharing and cooking food in the outdoors is a superb vehicle for learning. The food always tastes so much better that way! Examples of the culinary delights we may prepare can include trail breads with seaweed, packed with vital sources of vitamins and minerals, both delicious and nutritious! Preparing and lighting our wood-fired bbq is a team effort. From collecting the kindling and firewood to using fire steels to light it, a real challenge, watch out mini Ray Mears.

Outdoor Adventures For Schools Reviews

“Just emailing to say a massive thankyou to you all for making our day so enjoyable last friday (2nd August) All of the scouts plus leaders really enjoyed their time out on the sea. I was really impressed with it all and so glad I used you. I will certainly be recommending you to others and will hopefully be back again in the future to enjoy another day with you all. The instructors were all very friendly and helpful towards the scouts.

Once again thankyou very very much.”

Sara W Scouts

“Thank you for everything, you were so easy to deal with from initial contact to deciding which activities would be appropriate for my class and all of my KS2 children loved the stand up paddleboarding. Two of my staff members have said that they will be contacting you soon to organise outdoor adventures with their classes.”

Mr T Williams (school teacher)

“I attended your half day old harry kayak tour last summer and speaking to Dan was so happy to discover that you provide outdoor adventures for schools. My tutor group has voted me the best teacher in the school after our kayak, bushcraft, and foraging session! It was a delight to see them all so enthusiastic to learn new skills and develop within the teams you assigned them to. Highly recommended”

Mr Kill (secondary teacher)

“Forest school was just the break from the classroom and city that my kids needed, thank you ever so much for a wonderful experience. Some of my class had never been to the coast before so it was a real eye-opener for them. Warning – Fore Adventures will have your class pestering you for more!”
