Beginners Sea Kayaking – Half Day Intro Reviews

“Fantastic experience kayaking out to Old Harry Rocks, would really recommend beginners sea kayaking. Instructors made sure we felt really confident despite not having done much kayaking before myself. Amazing sites and to pull up on the beach underneath the rocks is something not many people will get to do. The exciting trip back going round the headlands against the waves but nothing most people wouldn’t be able to cope with and the leaders were really good at making sure everyone was ok. Would love to do this again sometime.”

“Lovely location for the course. All information was provided that was needed. And James was a brilliant coach. I would recommend you to anyone.”

“I live in Weymouth and do a lot of water sports. The Fore Adventure kayak trip to Old Harry was exceptional. John really knows his stuff – he looked after all the members of the expedition, showed us the sea life round Old Harry, was thoughtful, intelligent, and really good fun. And the safety features were meticulous – checking the weather before we left, notifying the coastguard before and after the trip, carrying a VHF transmitter and mobile phone, safety drill, and equipment.”

Gill

“We had a 3 hour Kayak beginners course which involved learning the basics of kayaking and a trip out to Old Harry. Our instructor Kyle was brilliant, he explained and demonstrated everything very clearly and made sure we could both kayak safely before heading out to Old Harry. It was beautiful to pass between the stacks and caves. On the return trip I somehow managed to capsize and Kyle showed us how to recover from this and continue back to the beach. We thoroughly enjoyed our morning and will be back.”

Itinerary

  • Unless we tell you something else all of our sea kayaking sessions run from our Hutquarters on Middle beach in Studland, if this trip will be running in the harbour you will be notified where to meet in advance, but it will start on the Studland side of the harbour.
  • Please arrive at our base in the car park 10 minutes before your adventure begins to ensure a savvy start as we, unfortunately, can’t hold the session if you are late.
  • You will need to be ready in your swimwear for a swift change into wetsuits.
  • After a quick change, you will make your way down to our beach hut down on the beach.
  • After a short safety briefing, you will kayak out to explore the majestic Old Harry Rocks. We hug the coastline and stay in mostly shallow water all the way. At Old Harry, we enter deeper water and explore the cliffs and sea stacks further.
  • This trip is on single closed cockpit kayaks.

What To Bring

  • You will need to bring footwear (old trainers or aqua shoes do just the job).
  • You will need to wear your swimming cossie or shorts underneath our wetsuits. Make sure you bring sunglasses, sunscreen, a change of clothes, a towel, and a water bottle to stay hydrated.
  • In winter you will need to wear a base layer under our wetsuit (manmade fabric as cotton will retain water). Hats and gloves are a good idea too, as well as a snug fleece and some warm socks for afterward!
