2 Hour Foraging Introduction

November 30, 2024
£25 – £40
foraging basket beach

Join us for a taster session in foraging (min age 4+). Foraging is the tradtional art of identifying and gathering wild plants, fungi and fruit in nature. It is important to learn how to forage sustainably and identify species which are safe to consume.

On this short beginners foraging event you can learn about what common plants grow in the wild and how to use them. This a great introduction into wild food to learn about the health benefits of foraged ingredients and you will also be taught which plants are poisonous and should be avoided.

What you forage on these sessions will vary depending on the time of year you visit us. Throughout the seasons some plants will produce different edibles at different times, for example in the summer elder will provide elderflowers which are wonderful for making desserts and elderberries in the autumn which you can use for its high vitamin C content to make syrups to keep coughs and colds at bay. To get the most out of your foraging and to understand a habitat throughout the seasons we do recommend visiting at different points throughout the year to learn about how these plants produce different wild foods seasonally.

To compliment this introductory foraging course we will be including some bushcraft skill sharing so that you can learn how you can use some bushcraft techniques to get the most out of your time outside. Activities vary and could include a fire lighting workshop with flint and steel. Children £25pp Adults £40pp.
