Join a coastal foraging course in Dorset run by founder of Fore Adventure and expert forager Dan Scott who has appeared on Sky, BBC, CH4 and ITV. The content of this wild food course will cover a wide range of plants and seafood, both inland and along the coast. Dan will teach you how to safely identify and gather food from the shoreline, beach, and sea, all while respecting and caring for the environment. Depending on the season and location, you may discover shellfish, various types of seaweeds and several edible coastal plants.

We will meet at our base on Middle Beach in Studland, a stunning wild peninsula featuring heathland, shoreline, and hedgerows to explore. The session will begin with a discussion on safety, tides, legalities of foraging, how to forage sustainably and sensitively and points of interest, including geography, geology, and the history of the area, before we head out to explore the wild plants. Remember, the plants available change throughout the seasons, so feel free to return at different times of the year to experience new finds or join one of our other foraging courses.

Please be prepared for all weathers and the uneven terrain, ensure you are dressed appropriately for the weather conditions, and bring sunscreen and sturdy closed footwear.

You will learn how to forage for coastal plants and hunt down the very best of our Dorset seaweed, pull in pots, and hunt out razor clams on this seashore scavenge. Learn what wild species are edible, how to harvest them, their medicinal properties, and how to prepare them for eating. We end this foray with a heartwarming soup on the beach flavoured with one of the wild ingredients we have shown you.
