We love the seasons, in all their variety! From water fights to woolly jumpers and the changes in what the hedgerows and seashore bring in between. While we stoke the fire this winter at the Fore Hutquarters we have been reminiscing of a summer spent adventuring on the water and star gazing at Camp Bestival. Hunker down in your sleeping bag because we have a summer tale to tell…
A Summer Of Fun
Picture This.
A festival filled with frivolity sat in the lap of Dorset’s Lulworth Castle bubbles away in the background. The Fore team are at base camp- set apart from the hubbub on the side of a gently sloping hill, along a line of ancient wood.
Glowing in lantern light, a gaggle of adventurers big and small are led to our wild hideaway. They’re armed with sleeping bags and camp fire stories, and they’re ticking off a star gazing 50 things box with the National Trust.
This is wild camping.
With marshmallows on sticks, small ones toast their treats while sipping on fire brewed hot chocolate. In between slurps of hot choc we sing songs of nostalgia to a guitar unplugged. So glad of a pocket of peace that allows us to reconnect to each other and our ground.
Star Gazing In Dorset
Families gathered together that summer evening, sharing stories and huddling together for warmth and just because. We slept with our heads on grassy ground while waking up next morning to a silent alarm of welcome sunrise.
‘We all need the tonic of wilderness.’ That’s what Thoreau said and we reckon he was on to something. Taking time out of the hectic, out of those walls and in to the wild is a recipe for a happy human. Wild camping, with nothing to think about other than a flask of something hot, some friends, a sleeping bag and of course a bit of star gazing is a way to get wild that is brilliantly simple. It’s a chance to forge memories out of adventure.
