We love sharing our Dorset adventures with people from all walks of life, showing them the wonders of where we live and connecting people to nature.
One such adventurer joining us was Gordon Ramsay, joined by Paul Ainsworth. This was part of the new series of Uncharted: UK Showdown. We had the opportunity to share nature’s larder and dive in (literally!) on an epic adventure.
Coasteering – Dorset Adventures
Firstly, we took the pair to Dancing Ledge on their Dorset adventure. This disused quarry of Purbeck Stone juts dramatically into the sea. Furthermore, it’s an area we regularly explore coasteering and climbing and forms part of the world famous Jurassic Coast.
Getting started on their Dorset adventures, the pair were geared up with wetsuits, helmets and buoyancy aids. Under the watchful eye of coasteering guide and Fore Co-Founder Dan Scott, the pair jumped into the chilly water to hunt for edible seaweeds. They were quick to identify gutweed. This stringy green seaweed is best given the deep fry treatment making it like crispy seaweeds common in Asian cuisine. Further along the rocky coast they tasted a firm Fore favourite, pepper dulse. Often referred to as the “truffle of the sea”, its flavours include garlic, anchovy and of course truffle.
Old Harry Rocks Kayak Fishing
Secondly on their Dorset Adventure… After this we focused on staying above the water! Getting up close and personal with Old Harry Rocks, exploring the chalk formations by kayak and- keeping it food focused- pulling in a lobster pot.
As with so much foraged fare, it didn’t have to travel far to become part of a delicious meal. Later, the pair prepared meals back on dry land featuring plenty of the ingredients they gathered from their Dorset adventures.
